During Hanukkah, a ceremony was held to award grants to outstanding soldiers who completed their service in the Golani Brigade. This is the fifth time the association has awarded these scholarships.

Statement by the Chairman of the Association, Maj. Gen. (res.) Gabi Ophir

The Golani Association, composed of fighters and commanders who served in the past for decades, regretted to accompany the fighters and commanders and to assist their needs. The organization joined the activity when the “Tzuk Eitan” operation was launched, in which the brigade carried out the difficult task and successfully stood there.

The graduates of the brigade numbered more than 53,000 people, and we are trying to locate them and join them to continue to accompany the Golani Brigade.

Since Golani is always Golani, the right to serve in the brigade for three years is an experience for generations.

We, the graduates of the Division, do all we can to help:

About 300 lone soldiers each Passover and Rosh Hashana give a gift package.

Cultivation of the memorial site and the bereaved families, 1468 Brigade casualties.

A visit to the wounded.

Excellence – Granting grants to the brigade’s liberators – a committee headed by Brig. Gen. (res.) Moshe Ben Shalom Mayor Rosh Ha’ayin.

Cultivate the brigade’s legacy and establish observation sites in the Golani fighting area, which are spread throughout the country. The construction of a Golani Trail that runs through the battle sites from Hermon to Eilat is led by Brig. Gen. (res.) David Katz.

A website that includes “In their memory” commemorating the fallen.

The evening is here and for you dear soldiers we gathered to say thank you very much, to give you a modest gift for great deeds.

Your excellence is not the result of your excellence, your excellence is not a single act, your excellence stems from the desire to serve in the best, in the unit being tested every day, whether in operations, routine security and training. You are the example of the value of excellence that is the right-hand marker of the brigade’s spearhead – and for this we salute you this evening.

Dear parents, we are told that thanks to your development, you nurtured and educated your child to glory and we were privileged to serve in the brigade.

I would like to thank the members of the Association who do a great deal for the Division, as well as the Bank Leumi and others who contribute to us.

Golani Brigade – You are our pride and we are at your side always.

The ceremony was held in the presence of the brigade’s staff members who represent the donors.

The eighth candle of the holiday was lit by the mayor of Rosh Ha’ayin, a member of the association and chairman of a scholarship committee with the rabbi of the brigade.

Mr. Joseph Berman, the representative of the donors, the brigade commander and a representative of the scholarship recipients also spoke.

Shemo Mickey donated refreshments and he adopted the brigade and its events (Mickey was a company commander in Battalion 13).
